The Meaning of Life
« When one has a special gift, one must use it for humanity. »
Christian Havet poses this question sensitively in all his glass works and provides answers that the observer can interpret as individual. Glass, stone, paper, and color are at the center of the three-dimensional preoccupation. The large subject, which defines the place of man in the universe, is inexplicable and has multiple aspects. With vivid colors like blue and red, Christian Havet symbolizes the power of the universe; sometimes, he makes small details of stone or paper appear at first glance, revealing the strength of the individual as part of the whole.
With works like « magma » in his red phase, he refers to the blood and energy of Mother Earth, and with « chromosomes » in his blue phase, he reminds us how essential even the smallest elements are to life. Born the second of three brothers in Cambrai, Christian Havet grew up in Paris. He began painting at the age of six. His parents quickly noticed his aptitude and supported his pursuit of art.
Studying architecture in Belgium and practicing for several years as an architect deepened Christian’s artistic vision, and he never stopped creating: one image after another. Through a chance encounter, he participated in his first exhibition in Paris in 1980 at the age of 21. From then on, it was one after another.
Fascinated by the artistic excitement of Berlin, he exhibited for the first time in Germany (1987). His works have already been admired at more than thirty exhibitions around the world, most recently in November of last year in the superb Saint Louis Chapel at the Salpetriere. Christian Havet divides his life and work between Paris and Munich, and preparations for upcoming exhibitions are well underway. For this summer, Christian is planning the Long Night of Museums in Berlin, and he has secured the « Allergesundheitsen Hofkirche » right next to the opera house from the city of Munich, which was certainly not easy.
